Tapered Stainless Steel just for Knifemakers!

Finally! A Knifemaker's Stainless Steel that isn't just steel being used to make knives.

It is steel made for knifemakers!

Tapered Steel has all the benefits of flat bar stock, but many more advantages!

By using a steel that is made as close as possible to the final cross section of the finished blade,

there are many advantages to the knifemaker.

Take a look at the end view of the tapered steel below, and you can see for yourself

that you start with steel that is much closer to the final shape than flat bar stock!

End Views of Tapered Steel

Look at just three of the many ways tapered steel can save you money!

First, when you purchase flat bar stock by the pound and then have to grind away nearly half of it, you pay for steel that ends up on your shop floor!

Second, the same flat bar stock that ends up on your shop floor costs you money in the form of more belt and wheel wear. It also costs you money because of the extra time it takes to grind all that material away. You also have to pay for the additional electricity to run your grinder all that extra time. With Tapered Steel, you minimize wear on your equipment and belts, take less time, and save electricity!

Third, when you heat treat, you have about half the volume and half the weight – think about what you save when you only heat treat about half what you would with flat bar stock!!

This is high quality modified 420 Stainless Steel with properties nearly identical to Sandvik 12C27.

You have to try this metal to believe how good it really is. It is very tough when properly tempered and holds a great edge for a long time!

It comes annealed, ready to drill. Temper it, and you are ready to

flat grind just a little bit and your blade is done.

Several dimensions are in stock.

All of them have the same tapered shape.
